My Komen 3-Day Experience: Part I

What can I say? I’m (nearly) speechless. In the weeks leading up to the event, people would ask me if I was excited/nervous/regretful about the coming walk. My answer: “well, I’m not a worrier at all so I feel a lot like I felt in the weeks leading up to Bridget’s birth. I know I’m supposed to be worried/excited/scared but since I have no idea what to expect I guess I just feel like I’m stepping into a black hole.” Yep. That pretty much summed it up.

The Susan G. Komen 3-Day For the Cure is one of the most challenging, intense, emotional, and memorable journeys I have ever experienced. No matter if I decide to do it again in the future or not, I’ll surely never forget the first time. It was purely amazing.

Thankfully, I found a way to make space for my camera so I could document every moment of my journey. Unfortunately, I took about 200 pictures! I plan to organize them and put up a post soon, but for now I’m still just decompressing physically and emotionally. A lot of tears were shed (happy, sad, pain…), so I look forward to presenting some of my most favorite pics for you instead of just tossing out a bunch (for that fix, just check out my facebook 3-Day album).

Let me leave this post with this last comment: the first thing people ask you after you complete the 3-Day is if you’re going to do it again next year. My answer? I hope so! I am so proud of myself for making it through nearly every step with minimal physical harm and with a positive attitude. I know I can do it again, but can I put together a team that’s willing to do it with me? Mandy, Adrianne and I were all in agreement that without a team, we never could have done it all. Just like any challenge in life, the love and support you get from those around you help you get through to the end.

We did it!
